WHY BE A MEMBER OF APTA & APTA TN FROM YOUR PAST CHAPTER PRESIDENT:
Dr. Alan Meade, PT, DScPT, MPH
Past President APTA Tennessee Chapter
Examples of APTA actions that affect me day to day:
Payment and Policy initiatives taking place nationally and statewide and the latest on reimbursement.
APTA ‘s unique and valuable clinical resources.
Knowledge of Legislative matters at the Federal Level, items handed down by CMS, ie: 9% Medicare Cut, PTAs reimbursed at 85/15, and the list goes on.
Pandemic news and Telehealth features and initiatives.
Being part of a Network of PTs/PTAs who are essentially in the “know”.
Clinical Education in all of the PT Sections/Academies where you can put your hands on anything requested.
Finding out whether your Congressmen/Senators support our profession and being part of the Legislative cause when needed.
Communication from all the Districts within the State for education purposes or for specific cause.
The Public’s Physical Therapy Awareness to direct access, the Opioid campaign, Medicare issues, etc.
How does joining directly affect being a PT in Tennessee?
It gives you inside knowledge immediately about the profession and what is happening in TN specifically.
The newest most recent website gives a PT/PTA knowledge of significant events that are occurring or have occurred, and by that, the website has the most current issues with links that usually give a wealth of knowledge.
If a Student has been exposed to the APTA Tennessee way of life and if that was a very positive experience for them, then they will want that to continue in their professional career.
If there is a PT/PTA nonmember, and they are always invited by each of the TN Districts to their meetings, and they see the quality of the state and district meetings, then they may be apt to join as a member. DISTRICTS SHOULD ALWAYS REACH OUT TO OUR “POTENTIAL MEMBERS”!
