The Tennessee Physical Therapy Association (TPTA) was founded in 1951 as the Tennessee chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
A few historical milestones:
1921 – The American Physical Therapy Association (originally the American Women’s Physical Therapeutic Association) was founded.
1951 – The Tennessee Physical Therapy Association was established as the Tennessee chapter of APTA.
1978 – Tennessee’s first comprehensive Board of Physical Therapy rules were filed.
1999 – Tennessee’s Physical Therapy Practice Act underwent a major modernization, and the law formally recognized the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association as the organization that submits nominees for the state Board of Physical Therapy.
2005 – Tennessee implemented continuing competence requirements for PTs and PTAs.
